GM Sad News - Greater Economic Development Effort Needed

So, General Motors says it's going to shut down the Oklahoma City Plant?
Terrible news. But why is it happening?
Oklahoma is located smack dab in the middle of the US. We should have companies breaking down the door to want to build andmake stuff here and ship it anywhere in the US or into Canada or Mexico. Why aren't they here?
You can say it's a problem with the international car markets, and the unions are causing $1,400 a car price disadvantage to fund health care and retirement benefits.
The truth is that the Big Three US Auto Makers, Ford, GM and Chrysler are all suffering from problems with a changing market.
Could this restructuring be the best things that ever happened to the B-3? The restructuring in Japan made big changes in those car makers, now they are back on top after a slump in sales in the late 90's.
Don't count our B-# out, just yet. This restructuring could be terrible in the short run, but it could mean that real reform in health care and retirement systems will pass in the congress to change this into a blessing in disguise.
I hope it does, because everyone wants a strong economy.
My prayers go out to everyone, the company workers, their families, friends and other businesses that are impacted by this terrible news, it's my prayer that this devastating news brings a rebirth to the competitive nature of the domestic car makers. If there is any country that can benefit from adversity, it is our spirit and grit that makes us stronger in the long run.
For starters, it's time to fix our workers compensation system, end the state income tax, and try new options in medical care and retirement plans so we can compete in the market place and encourage more businesses to locate in our great state and employ more Oklahomans.
Let's not sit on our hands--let's get the legislature in special session to address these issues now and start an economic rebirth in Oklahoma.
