Tea Party, "Splainin' it to Lucy!

The era of big government is over. Remember that from Pres. Bill Clinton. He said it, and America believed it. Liberals hated it, and what happened? The government grew.
Then Texas Governor George Bush convinced us that he would be a tax cutting leader who would keep government under control. He then used his political capital to reduce taxes but thought he needed to get along with the our friends on the other side by expanding government. They won, he lost. When you extend your hand, they cut it off.
Then Bush tried to explain to America that we needed to provide amnesty for illegal aliens, which was wildly unpopular.
The Republicans in congress under Bush, decided they would spend as much or more on some parts of government, which went against the feelings of conservatives of both parties, and there are a lot of them.
You have to stand for something, or you'll fall for anything.
The Republican Congress and George Bush were repudiated at the polls in 1986 by the democrats complaining about government spending and blaming Bush and the Republican congress.
Then in 2008 the democrats won both houses of congress, destroyed George Bush's last two years, vilified him as a war criminal and set up an inexperienced senator to run, someone who hadn't voted very much so no one would know where he stood for.
They found Barack Obama who could read, but no one knew what he stood for.
They took back ALL THREE branches of government. They believed the American people wanted big government spending and big government programs. They believed wrong. After running up huge debt and untold spending caused by unpopular programs they shoved down the throats of America, conservatives raised their voices to say NO MORE!
The Tea Party had three simple principles, smaller government, lower taxes and a strong national defense. The same principles of Ronald Reagan in 1980.
So when the media says they don't understand what the Tea Party stands for, that should be expected, because they never understood the principles of Reagan and how he was able to connect with the foundation of America's beliefs, conservative beliefs that have been around for more than 230 years. Liberals can't remember these principles, and conservatives will always remember them. It's nothing personal, it's just our country and our future we care so much about.

Here's the problem

Government is like a little baby, with a voracious appetite at one end and no control at the other. President Reagan said something similar.
Here's a plan for November. Sunset laws. Sunset laws are laws that require every agency to be reviewed for whether or not we need it after a period of time.
For insance, do we really need a buggy whip inspection unit that was created in 1899 to continue today? Probably not.
With all the agencies that have been created over time that were in excess of the 10th Amendment to the Constitution, where the limits of the Federal Government prevent too much influence over the states.
Now, we have an out-of-control federal government that is growing larger than anyone ever anticipated and spending huge amounts or borrowing huge debt to cover the spending of these huge government programs.
What's wrong with Sunsetting agencies, making them explain what they do and why?
I had breakfast with Sen. Tom Coburn this week, me a just 50 of his closest friends, and he said he's been asking the questions about agencies and what they do. He's found dozens of agencies with the same responsibilities. There is something wrong with a government that can't control what they do and has multiple agencies doing the same thing.
If Republicans were smart, they would make this a keystone of their efforts to retake the congress. This is something I'd vote for.

Coming to a Radio Station Near You

I have big news, I am starting a new radio program starting on March 1st, 2010. It's called Radio Oklahoma Mornings with Larry Stein. The station is in Oklahoma, and covers most of eastern Oklahoma on KOCD 103.7 on the web at kocd1037fm.com.
The show will be news, weather, sports, information and me providing information and fun in between the segments.
I still have some work to do to get ready, training on the computer since I will be the only one in the studio, and things should kick off at 6 a.m. on Monday morning.
I'm excited and will be making posts on this site about issues and welcome your input. I'm also on Face Book if you want to join me there.
Wish me luck.
