Politics With Soul

I was deeply involved in a recent political race recently: The Good Guy Won.
In case you are interested in politics, and I hope you are, you have to remember a few things.
The main point to remember in any political arena is "dance with who brung ya'."
The most important thing you have to do in public service in to serve the public. That means you have to get along with other people that you work for, which includes thousands of constituents and other elected leaders.
If you are changing your mind about important issues or merely used the election to take advantage of a situation with the idea that you would betray your supporters--bad idea.
Attempt to get along with other elected officers who you serve with, don't ever call them names, and especially never call them names in a public meeting. When you do you lose.
It's simple enough, if you have supporters that voted for you for a reason, and if you reject those friends and then change the very basic agreement you made with them, you're doomed.
The second thing to remember is to look in the mirror.
If you did something while you were in public office that went against the things you pledged to do, then ask the voters what they think about that issue, don't use some euphemistic phrase to hope the electorate understands the question with a wink---ask the question.
If you don't then you don't have any guts, and you lose.
This time the election came out great, and I'm very happy to have been on the winning side of a very hard-fought political race.
