Here's the Problem with the Immigration "Compromise"

Statement of Sen. Jeff Sessions on the Immigration Bill Compromise
Thursday, April 6, 2006
“The compromise bill, unfortunately, is essentially the same as the Kennedy-McCain bill that was crushed by a 60 - 39 vote today. Therefore, without substantial amendment, I will not vote for it. For example, it allows for more permanent residents than before – including at least three times the annual current employment green card level – all without serious evaluation. We can fix the immigration system in our country, but we first need a commitment from the President and Congress to ensure that our borders are secure. Then we can decide how to fairly and humanely treat the 11 million illegal immigrants who are already here and determine how many people can come in the future.”
